Cheongju City made a sincere step into the business to make a city without linguistic and cultural barriers.
On March the 3rd (Tues.) Cheongju City made a business agreement with BBB Korea Org. (incorporated association) to make the whole city a place.
BBB Korea Org. is a language and culture volunteer's organization established nu the advocacy of with Lee O-young, the first Ministry of Culture. The organization visions the world of communication without linguistic and cultural barriers. It has Korea largest human infrastructure - 4,500 volunteers - and have provided interpretation volunteering services for 100 domestic major occasions including 2014 Incheon Asian Games, 2012 Yeosu Expo and 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup Games.
The mayor of Cheongju City, Lee Sung Hun, and the chairman of BBB Korea, Yoo Jang Hee (the former president of the National Commission for Corporate Partnership) participated in the agreement ceremony on that day and promised to develop a systematic business to a city without linguistic and cultural barriers.
According to the agreement, the city will provide foreign visitors with free foreign language services of English, Japanese, Chinese and others through the consultation and the network of BBB Korea.
To activate the services, Cheongju City plans to prepare promotional materials and display them in 200,000 spots such as major destinations, public institutions, restaurants and shopping facilities in the city. Anyone in need of language interpretation service can benefit it with one simple call ready for 24 hours a day.
Particularly this year, the city will launch trial services of English, Japanese and Chinese interpretation service in celebration that of Cheongju City was designated as the cultural city of East Asia and the free interpretation service will expand to 19 languages including French and German from 2016.
A city official revealed, "The city will level up this effort to civic movement to enhance the performance of this business and phase in the business systematically. Furthermore, it will build up a cooperative network with other Eastern Asian culture cities."
